India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real EstateConsumer Durables and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.23%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC), which rose 2.97% or 7.55 points to trade at 261.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) added 2.85% or 16.65 points to end at 600.60 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NSE:APLH) was up 2.24% or 152.45 points to 6,944.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NSE:ASPN), which fell 3.36% or 79.15 points to trade at 2,275.20 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NSE:TITN) declined 2.97% or 106.80 points to end at 3,490.90 and Nestle India Ltd (NSE:NEST) was down 2.20% or 50.50 points to 2,248.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which rose 1.75% to 1,146.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 0.90% to settle at 1,057.55 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 0.89% to close at 717.00.

The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.36% to 2,276.00 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 2.95% to settle at 3,493.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 2.19% to 2,249.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1580 to 709 and 114 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2433 rose and 1368 declined, while 135 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.89% to 14.14.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.88% or 25.44 to $2,901.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.67% or 0.49 to hit $72.21 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.53 to trade at $75.67 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.41% to 87.43, while EUR/INR rose 0.84% to 91.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 107.26.
