Taiwanese chipmaker United Microelectronics Corp (NYSE:UMC) said on Wednesday that there was currently no ongoing merger “activity”. Chief Financial Officer Chitung Liu made the comment on an earnings call when asked about reports UMC and U.S.-based GlobalFoundries (NASDAQ:GFS) are looking into the possibility of a merger.
