Volkswagen (ETR:VOWG_p)’s core VW brand reported a 14.3% increase in global electric vehicle sales during the first half of the year, according to a report published by Handelsblatt on Wednesday.

The German newspaper, which did not specify its sources, said the sales growth highlights Volkswagen’s leading position in the European electric vehicle market.

In Europe specifically, Volkswagen-branded electric vehicle unit sales surged by more than 70% during the same six-month period, the report added.
