Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Paper & PulpTransport and Communication sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7011), which rose 6.20% or 199.00 points to trade at 3,410.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) added 5.75% or 101.00 points to end at 1,856.00 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) was up 4.73% or 24.90 points to 551.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which fell 4.95% or 54.00 points to trade at 1,037.00 at the close. Ebara Corp. (TYO:6361) declined 4.25% or 126.00 points to end at 2,839.50 and M3 Inc (TYO:2413) was down 4.00% or 76.50 points to 1,834.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1845 to 1734 and 276 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.64% to 24.75.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.58% or 0.38 to $65.57 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.55% or 0.38 to hit $68.83 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.24% or 8.25 to trade at $3,398.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.35% to 147.91, while EUR/JPY rose 0.35% to 172.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.68.
