India is seeking more than $30 billion in compensation from Reliance Industries (NSE:RELI) and BP (NYSE:BP) in an arbitration case over gas the companies allegedly failed to produce from offshore fields.

The dispute, which has been heard by a tribunal in India since 2016, concerns gas production from two deepwater fields, D1 and D3, in the D6 block of the Krishna Godavari basin, the report said.

Final arguments in the long-running case took place on November 7, it added.

The arbitration centers on gas that India claims the companies were obligated to produce from these offshore locations but failed to deliver.

The case involves two major energy companies – India’s Reliance Industries, a conglomerate with significant oil and gas operations, and British energy giant BP.
