India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Consumer Durables and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.26% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NSE:TISC), which rose 3.59% or 6.55 points to trade at 189.12 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE:INBK) added 3.45% or 31.45 points to end at 942.00 and NTPC Ltd (NSE:NTPC) was up 3.28% or 11.10 points to 349.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NSE:KTKM), which fell 80.29% or 1,712.30 points to trade at 420.30 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NSE:ASPN) declined 2.40% or 69.30 points to end at 2,817.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NSE:TCS) was down 2.17% or 71.00 points to 3,197.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 3.56% to 189.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.30% to settle at 940.30 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 3.21% to close at 348.70.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.29% to 2,818.25 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 2.13% to settle at 3,198.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.77% to 16,135.65 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1309 to 1163 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2055 fell and 1898 advanced, while 174 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.70% to 11.39 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.94% or 43.29 to $4,642.39 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.61% or 0.37 to hit $61.52 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.39 to trade at $65.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 90.25, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 105.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 98.83.
